About us

With the help of application-oriented research, we develop solutions along the entire industrial value circle. Our guiding idea is a digitally integrated production in which man and machine interact on the basis of data and can thus adapt flexibly and proactively to changing requirements.

Fraunhofer IPK is a research and development institution in the field of production technology. With our distinctive IT competency, we offer system solutions, individual technologies and services for digitally integrated production. We provide comprehensive support to companies from product development, planning and control of machines and systems, including technologies for parts manufacturing, to comprehensive automation and management of factory operations. We also transfer production engineering solutions to areas of application outside industry, such as traffic and safety.

As an institute of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft, we tailor our work to fit the needs and requirements of our customers and partners. With its market orientation and high real-world value, our R & D helps to sharpen their long-term competitive edge. We develop forward-looking novel solutions and modernize, optimize and upgrade existing technologies and applications.

ITA offers research and education in distinct engineering fields, including aerospace, aeronautical, civil, mechanical, computer and electronics engineering. It is located inside the Department of Aerospace Science & Technology (DCTA), which is considered one of the biggest research centers in Latin America. ITA was responsible for some major achievements in Brazil in the last 60 years, including the foundation of the Brazilian Aeronautical Industry (EMBRAER), the development of the Automotive Ethanol Program as well as the enhancement of the Telecommunications Industry (Telebrás).

The Competence Center in Manufacturing (CCM) is a laboratory of ITA, specialized in all stages of the product lifecycle. CCM conducts research aimed at the development of the Brazilian industry, fostering innovation in the manufacturing area. Together with partner companies, CCM develops products and solutions in the areas of manufacturing processes, automation, metrology, digital manufacturing and structural analysis. In addition, concepts such as Integrated Product Development (DIP) and Lean Manufacturing are used to increase efficiency and quality of industrial project partners.

The Fraunhofer IPK Project Office for Advanced Manufacturing at ITA consists on the offer of competencies both from Fraunhofer IPK and from CCM-ITA at the Brazilian market.

Partnership

The Fraunhofer IPK Project Office for Advanced Manufacturing at ITA consists on the offer of competencies both from Fraunhofer IPK and from CCM-ITA at the Brazilian market. The Fraunhofer IPK and the Competence Center in Manufacturing (CCM) from ITA started in 2009 a cooperation that is nowadays recognized as very successful, especially due to the large number of high impact projects running by both institutions in Brazil. Both CCM and Fraunhofer IPK currently offer a large number of similar and complementary products and services in their portfolios focusing on the acquisition and development of industrial R&D-projects in Brazil.

Intending the further extension of this collaboration and also the successful match of competences in the Brazilian market, both institutions seek for the alignment of a common strategy for expanding their activities in Brazil. That alignment of strategies goes through the implementation of the Fraunhofer IPK Project Office for Advanced Manufacturing at ITA. The cooperative research work is carried out by a mixed-team of research assistants from CCM/ITA and from Fraunhofer IPK, working both in Brazil and in Germany.

Mission

The specific Mission of the Fraunhofer IPK Project Office for Advanced Manufacturing at ITA is to promote the competitiveness of the Brazilian, German and European industries by means of knowledge transfer, applied research and innovation.

Vision

Fraunhofer IPK Project Office for Advanced Manufacturing at ITA has a long-term perspective, or Vision, to become one of the leading RD&I suppliers and an institutional reference for innovative solutions in Brazil, advancing the international research and development activities.

Strategic Objectives
